Create a labor-saving box of washing powder that looks and
works like a machine gun magazine. The box of washing powder
'bullets' would be inserted into the top of a compatible washing
machine which would then automatically calculate the amount
of powder needed for each wash, e.g. one, two or three bullets.

Free Idea # 254 - Exercise machines with calories burned detail

Manufacture cardiovascular exercise machines which, in addition
to showing numerical data about time, intensity, speed, distance,
etc. would show images of food products equivalent to the calories
burned off. Display options might include 'fruit and vegetables',
'sweet treats', 'meat and dairy' or 'drinks', allowing the exercise
machine to be pre-programmed with a target number of bananas,
jam donuts, hot dogs or pints of lager to be exercised away.

Free Idea # 253 - Paper shredders with multiple bins

Develop paper shredders that would automatically split shredding
between two or more bins. Users could empty each bin at different
times or in different places, reducing the chance of a fraudster being
able to recover a complete bank statement or other confidential
document.

Convert all internal doors in schools, offices, and homes into
magnetic dry-wipe whiteboards. Each would serve as a reminder

lights up when a Playstation, Xbox, etc. is being played. Parents
wanting to limit their child's gaming time - especially when the

of the gaming device until a parental lock key is entered.

Invent a durable clockwork photocopier that could be used by
disaster relief teams in areas where regular power supplies are
unavailable. This almost indestructible 'Hummer among photocopiers'
would be water and dust resistant, and capable of operating in
extreme cold, heat, and humidity. Dissemination of low-tech
paper-based information in the precious first few hours and days
after a major disaster would enhance co-ordination of the relief
effort and, ultimately, save lives.

Invent a cold water bottle - the opposite of a hot water bottle -
that would help keep the user cool during oppressively hot nights.

Color-code road surfaces to warn of imminent bends, turns, concealed
intersections, etc. The sudden change in the color of the road - running
for one kilometer up to the potential hazard - would indicate what lies
ahead and, by so doing, would encourage drivers to pay due care and
attention. This innovation should reduce the number of accidents and
other mishaps.

Free Idea # 244 - Video game with moral concept

Design a video game where the player experiences the significant
legal and moral consequences of violent acts such as robbery and
murder that are glamorized in other games. After committing a
crime a player's gaming character would be arrested and would
go through the criminal justice system, experiencing the
humiliation involved. The player would also see their victims or
their surviving relatives talking about the impact crime has had
on their lives.

Free Idea # 243 - Auto focusing webcam

Develop a pendant, webcam, and accompanying software such
that, when the pendant is worn, the webcam would automatically
follow and focus on the wearer. This might be especially helpful
for people with a visual impairment who want to video conference
but cannot tell whether they are in shot or in focus, and for anyone
else who teaches or entertains via a webcam but likes to move
around as they work.

Free Idea # 242 - TV remote control detector

Add a button to the back of a TV that when pressed would
cause the remote control to beep to help locate it when lost.
A bank of other buttons on the back of the TV could be
pre-programmed to make locatable chips attached to other items -
satelite and cable clickers, house keys, car keys, cell phones, etc.

Manufacture and market luggage that would be the exact size
as the maximum dimensions allowed by major airlines. Luggage
could come with a sticker saying, perhaps, 'Approved by
Air Berlin, American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Easyjet, Emirates,
Jetstar Airways, Lufthansa, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Singapore
Airlines, and Wizz Air.'

Free Idea # 240 - Exercise T-shirt

Produce an exercise T-shirt that, when soaked with sweat,
would reveal the amount of calories burnt off or, perhaps,
the image of a food product with the equivalent calorie
content. If a person works out hard enough - and perspires
sufficiently - they would eventually end up with a shirt full
of images (or numbers). The shirt would boost morale,
encouraging people to exercise for longer periods of time.

Free Idea # 239 - Entertaiment devices rental store

Open stores at airports where travelers could rent portable
DVD-players, DVDs, small gaming devices, laptops, and games.
They could then either hand them in at the destination airport
or keep them for the duration of their vacation and return them
to the store where they first hired them. A returnable damage
deposit would be paid up front.

Create resilient textured 'Teether Pens' and 'Teether Pencils'.
These shatter-proof writing implements would be suitable for
children aged 6-8 getting their second set of teeth as well as
adults with erupting third molars.

Add a function that would enable an in-car sat-nav system to
access all the names and addresses on the driver's mobile phone
and show them on the sat-nav display. In the event of a
breakdown or emergency the driver could make a quick call or
detour to seek friendly assistance in the locality.
